US and Canadian iOS users invited to beta test buying bitcoin with cash

Dec 14, 2016

If you’ve been using breadwallet on iOS, you may have noticed an option buried in the settings page titled “Early Access”. We are constantly working on new features to improve the breadwallet experience, and always looking for users who are interested in testing out our new products before they are made available to everyone.

Most recently we’ve been working on a way to make it easy for our users to buy bitcoin with cash, and we are now ready to launch our public beta test of the new service for iPhone users in the United States and Canada. Users who sign up for early access, by selecting “Early Access” from the settings menu and verifying their email address, will now see a new “Buy Bitcoin” button in their breadwallet menu which will give them access to the new service.

Choosing “Buy Bitcoin” and then “Cash” will display a map of your location highlighting all the nearby options for purchasing bitcoin with cash. Options include both bitcoin ATMs and physical store locations where you can purchase bitcoin from a cashier. Currently only iPhone users located in the US and Canada are able to access the new feature, but an Android release and the ability to access the service from other countries will be coming soon.

What does this mean for my personal privacy?

The privacy of our users is very important to us, and you can always use breadwallet to send, receive, and store bitcoin without entering any personal information whatsoever! However, we do need a way to manage our Early Access users, which is why we ask you to verify your email address when signing up for Early Access. Your email address is obfuscated before being saved in our database, which means it is not visible to us or anyone else who may have access to the database in the future. Your activity with our service partners is shared with us only as anonymous statistics, and your activity when sending and receiving bitcoin will not be tied to your email address in any way.

Some of our partner services may require a certain amount of personal information from you, but you won’t be asked for that information until you access their services. To further protect your privacy, breadwallet will not store or be able to view any personal information you share with our service partners.
